Aloha, my name is Mel Furrer. I’m presently initiating a fund for an outstanding employee that works with me here at a local independent automotive repair shop in Las Vegas, NV.
I make it a point to ensure my employees are in proper form with pre shift and post shift meetings. This way I know my Ohana at work is Pono (proper) in so we are able to provide the best service for our community for their automotive repairs.
My shop, Foreman is a very private and humble person, and unbeknownst to me finding out that he may be out of a house and home in his current situation with a child who is no longer able to take care of themselves as an adult due to a horrific car accident and an entire families weight on his shoulders struggling to keep up with the bills on a solo income even driving on his lunch breaks to pick up his child after school and take her home and coming back to work would be a good example of his lunch break. I felt it was my Kuleana (responsibility) to help and at the very least try, especially during the holiday season. The industry we work in never pays our mechanics what they’re true worth is yet you always see them helping everyone else out so I feel it’s my turn to turn it around and keep it in balance for this amazing human being, and his family. Their Medical bills, attorneys fees, monthly rent, utilities gas to get to work, and putting food on the table seems to be a struggle and this is the only way I feel I could at least help lighten the weight and hopes to let other see they too can be a part of this to ensure he is Pono (proper form) to keep him and his ohana in his Hale (home). Any Kokua (help) is greatly appreciated.
