Repairing the Republic of Guinea Primary School, Matam.

Hello, our names are Sibo and Kimberly. We truly appreciate you taking a moment to read our story. Sibo grew up in Matam, Guinea West Africa (now a citizen of Australia), and attended the Republic of Guinea Primary School of Matam Lido 1 (Republique de Guinnee Ecole Primaire de Matam Lido 1). This was once a beautiful school and a school that Sibo is proud to have attended. In Guinea, public schools receive little government funding. Therefore, the maintenance of the school is dependent on student's families, but many do not have the means to provide financial support. This is where we need your help. Over time this beautiful school requires urgent repairs to ensure the students can continue to receive their education.

We will be working personally with local community leaders and contractors to complete the necessary renovations of the school.

Several buildings urgently require a new roof as they cannot be utilised when it rains. This school accommodates approximately 300 students, but there are only four toilets. We need to upgrade these facilities to adequately meet the needs of all students. We also need to repair the perimeter fencing and main gate to ensure the safety of the students during school hours. For the final stage of this project, we would like to build a new courtyard and playground for the children to enjoy.

Education is fundamental in reducing poverty, improving health standards, promoting gender equality, and empowering individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to their communities. Unfortunately, not all children have equal access to education. We aim to change this one small step at a time.
