Hi, I'm Moira Morgan, founder of Iris Lodge in Yallahs, Jamaica, our cherished sanctuary for vulnerable young people. Currently in residence there are 2 with intellectual disabilities for whom Iris Lodge will be their 'forever' home, and 4 wards in 6th form and vocational skills training who are transitioning care. Iris Lodge is the first small community group home of it's kind in Jamaica and has stood as a beacon of hope and safety for over 15years, 8 in Yallahs. However, this year's series of earthquakes, (April 15th 4.9, September 21st 4.9 and the latest October 31st, measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale), have taken a toll on our beloved home. The various cracks, twisting and contortion of metal louvre window frames and the shifting of roof timbers have created a state of emergency that demands our immediate attention.

Iris Lodge is not just a building; it's a haven where young souls find solace, support, and a pathway to a brighter future. The earthquakes have rendered it possibly unsafe and looks to have compromised its structural integrity. Our urgent plea is to raise funds to properly suvey the damage and restore Iris Lodge, ensuring it remains a safe and nurturing environment for these vulnerable young people.

The damage appears to be quite extensive, with large cracks marring the walls and the roof timbers perilously shifted with the flat roof over the front veranda looking to have separated from the front wall. Our primary concern is the safety of the young individuals who call Iris Lodge home. With your support, we can undertake the necessary structural repairs, ensuring a secure space where they can heal, learn, and grow.
