Hi, my name is Katie and I’m raising funds for my sister Chandra and her children after a sudden and devastating housing crisis.

After a bout of what everyone thought was winter flu, they discovered that their bedrooms were full of toxic mold from a leaking roof and rising damp and that they all were suffering respiratory illnesses linked.

The situation led to them having to move out, tear out and discover the source and the cure for this toxic mold. Two main bedrooms and both bathrooms were completely damaged and needed to be torn out. In searching the source it appears the roof, which was deemed good condition when she bought it is actually not what it seemed. The new roof they put on old tiles was like felt and full of holes!

There is also a discovery of rising damp which they don’t know where it’s coming from as well as mold in the attic and all the rooms.

It turns out the home insurance she has been paying towards over years won’t cover the mold or the roof, or the full repairs of bathrooms.

On top of this having to move out with no place to go, has proved costly.

But the hardest thing just now is that our Mom was on hospice and needed 24 hour care for 5 weeks until she just recently passed. Bless her soul, she was worried for my sister up to the end. We’ve both been needed to care and to have the time out of work to do so.

Chandra is a devoted single mother who would never normally ask for help, but right now she is facing overwhelming costs—from emergency housing to major home repairs.

We are hoping to raise $13,000 to help her begin to recover from this situation, although the full cost is far greater.
