Friends of Papa Emma, HELP!

Our beloved Papa Emma was in a serious auto accident. Fortunately, his life was saved, but he has a back injury.

The vehicle he used to lead tours is almost destroyed. This is our reason for asking for donations.

Emma (Emmanuel) accepted a job to drive through a very dangerous, remote location, the Karamoja Plain.

Roads are notoriously bad, and they almost fell off a bridge. They ended up in a ditch with the front of the truck smashed in. It is unusable now.

Militia in the area threatened to burn the truck, so Papa Emma had no choice but to get it towed. As you can see in the photo, the accident happened in the middle of nowhere. It cost Emma $900 to bring the vehicle back to civilization.

I asked Google Maps to show me the roads from Karamoja to Kampala. This is the response I got:

“Directions are not available from this location.”

This is what is meant by “remote”.

The other passengers on the tour were hospitalized. It took Papa Emma 3 days to get back home to Kampala.

Reasons to Care About This Disaster

Papa Emma plays an important part in healing traumatized refugees. They come from all of Uganda’s neighboring countries. They have been through so much.

Papa Emma used his now ruined vehicle to bring refugees to the hospital, to get food and supplies for them, and to take them to doctors’ appointments.

The money he earned from being a tour guide paid for the care of the refugees.
