My name is Julia and I’m fundraising to help the congregation of my church to pay for the repair of a precious window.
St Andrews Church, Taunton (The Railway Church) in Somerset has many beautiful and historic stained glass windows but our magnificent ‘Transfiguration of Christ’ window was damaged by a storm in 2024 when the central panel depicting the figure of Christ was blown loose. It shines down on our Mother and Toddler group, our morning worship play area, our Messy Church and our Sunday morning tea table but Christ is now a ghostly figure. Our church warden and helper braved difficulty and danger to temporarily make it safe with polycarbonate sheeting, but the cost of repair, due in February 2026, will be £2646. The insurers will not pay out because we cannot say for sure which day the damage was done. If that wasn’t bad enough, a survey of our Chancel windows will cost £750. This is particularly unfortunate because we are also fundraising to transform our building into a community hub and event venue as well as a place of worship. However, we have raised £1800 so far and would dearly like help to raise the final £846. We would also like to book a survey of the Chancel windows to make sure they are safe.
If you know and love St Andrews or appreciate stained glass or think that church buildings should be a welcoming community space or all of those, please donate to help us meet our deadline.
Thank you and blessings.
