Repair Grassy Narrows road before fire season

A Message from Grassy Narrows:

Last year, Grassy Narrows experienced record flooding that washed out a key Grassy Narrows fire escape route. If there is a forest fire blocking the road to Kenora, Segise Road is the only road out of Grassy Narrows to safety. The need to repair this road before fire season is urgent.

Please donate what you can to help us stay safe by repairing Segise Road to make it passable again. Any amount helps. Grassy Narrows people love the land and rely on the land to live our way of life, feed our families, practice our ceremonies, and teach our children what it means to be Anishinaabe.

Since Grassy Narrows banned industrial logging and mining on our Territory the government of Ontario has stopped maintaining the bush roads that are used by our people, hunters, fishers, campers, and others to access the forest. This is a pressure tactic that the government is using to try and force us to accept more industrial

extraction. It won’t work.

Unfortunately, Ontario's refusal to maintain the roads coupled with last year's historic floods have left our community in a dangerous situation.

With help from your previous donations, grassroots Grassy Narrows people are exercising our inherent rights by fixing the roads ourselves so that our people can get out on the land and live our way of life. We've proven over the past years that we have the skills, but we need funds to make Segise Road passable again.

Any amount that you donate will help. Together we will make the community safe while restoring access to Grassy Narrows' forests and helping to keep our relationship with our land and our way of life strong.

This GoFundMe is managed by Shelagh Pizey-Allen, who has been part of the team organizing River Run events since 2016 in support of Grassy Narrows. All funds raised will be spent on the costs of repairing the road.
