Save Anhar’s Boat – Support a Local Island Guide

Help keep a unique island experience alive

My name is Bernd, and I’m raising funds for my friend Anhar, a local fisherman and tour guide living in the remote Banyak islands in Indonesia.

Anhar is not a big tour operator. He is a simple, hardworking local who runs small island-hopping trips for visitors – camping on remote islands, snorkeling in clear waters, kayaking between untouched beaches, and sharing the natural beauty of his home.

His tours are known for being truly authentic, and he has even been mentioned in the Lonely Planet guide. Visitors who find him often describe their experience as one of the highlights of their time in Indonesia.

Why help is needed

Anhar depends on his small boat for everything:
  • taking tourists on island trips
  • fishing for daily income
  • transporting supplies between islands
Right now, his boat is in urgent need of repair.

Pulau Banyak is a very remote island region, and materials and spare parts have to be brought in from other areas by boat. This makes even simple repairs more complicated, slower, and more expensive than on the mainland.

In recent times, the cost of fuel, transport, and basic materials has risen noticeably, and fewer visitors are reaching remote island destinations like this. For small local operators like Anhar, who depend entirely on a small number of trips and fishing income, this creates a real challenge when urgent repairs are needed.

Without these repairs, the boat may soon become unsafe or unusable – which would mean losing his only source of income.

️What your support will be used for

The funds will go directly into repairing and securing his boat:
  • Materials (wood, metal parts, paint, hardware): 3,000,000 IDR
  • Local boat mechanic / labour: 5,000,000 IDR
  • Emergency buffer (unexpected repairs, transport, small missing parts): 2,000,000 IDR
Total goal: 10,000,000 IDR (approx. €500)

Every contribution will go directly into making the boat safe and functional again.

A personal note

Anhar is not someone who easily asks for help. In fact, he is quite shy and would normally try to solve everything on his own.

But the situation has reached a point where outside support can make a real difference.

This campaign was created with his knowledge and permission, to help him repair his boat and continue doing what he loves – and what visitors love about Pulau Banyak.

Thank you & future visits

To show appreciation, everyone who supports this campaign will be added to Anhar’s Friends List.

If you ever visit Pulau Banyak in the future, supporters will receive a special thank-you discount for one of his island-hopping tours.

This is simply a small gesture of gratitude – not a purchase, but a thank you from Anhar for helping him continue his work.

Even small support matters

Even small donations can make a real difference in this remote part of Indonesia.

If you cannot donate, sharing this campaign helps more than you can imagine.

Thank you for taking the time to read and for supporting a local island guide who loves sharing his home with others.
