13.000 kilometers, 18 Countries, 6 Months – Two friends on their bikes, one project & one goal
This year, we – Christopher Butsch and Armin Schmidt – will be challenging ourselves by exchanging our beds and flats for a tent and two bikes. As longtime friends we will start our adventure in April 2017.
The journey will take us from our hometown Lutherstadt Wittenberg to the roof of the world, the Himalaya in Nepal.
We will bike across Europe’s wild landscapes as well as travel through distant/foreign countries, which yet wait to be discovered, such as Iran and Pakistan.
Along our journey we aim to carry out the project “Recycling with Tim Turtle” to share our thoughts on sustainable development, thinking and action with people from all over the world.
It is our goal to attract interest and enthusiasm for environmental consciousness and sustainability in while realizing our own dream of biking the world.
In each country we are planning on doing a school visit in order to organize a collective project day that includes both children and teachers.
Thereby we want to inform both parties theoretically and practically about environmental protection and conservation.
Our concept includes collecting waste together, developing creative thoughts on plastic waste recycling and making flowerpots out of recycled material. Those flowerpots can be used by the kids for planting their own crops afterwards.
The mascot Tim Turtle accompanies our project as a symbolic figure for peace and dignity of all animals. He will be useful for the kids to identify with. With the help of Tim Turtle we will approach the situation/role of nature in our world and thereby encourage environmental consciousness in a playful and educational way.
We consciously chose the bike as our means of transport, as this permits us to travel slow and sustainably.
Our message is that anybody can do a great effort for the preservation of nature as well as that it is possible to realize your dreams even with limited means and little effort.
We would be delighted if we were able to convince you and to fill you with enthusiasm for our idea.
Every single penny will be used to realize the project so we can pay for expenses like essential materials, visa and things to keep us alive for 6 months :)
