Logan Square Mutual Aid fund for rental assistance to families affected by Covid-19
Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, neighbors banded together in Logan Square to support and provide for each other. This effort became Logan Square Mutual Aid, which has supported over dozens of families and individuals in our neighborhood with food, medicine, financial assistance, which has been overwhelmingly rental assistance.
This mutual aid effort has raised and distributed over $20,000 to support people with their rent and financial needs. These efforts has protected people from evictions and kept households in their homes during the pandemic.
Since April, Logan Square Mutual Aid has received more than $50,000 in rental assistance requests, from nearly 200 people. While we have provided nearly $22,000 in support, that is only half of the needed support. We know there is a looming mass eviction crisis, and we want to ensure all of our neighbors can stay in their homes and not face eviction. To prepare for the increase in needed aid, we have created the LSMA Rent Relief Fund. Logan Square Mutual Aid is committed to supporting our neighbors, who are most at risk of losing their homes.
We want to prevent people from falling into crisis, which means your support may go towards rent, late fees, legal assistance, security deposits, or anything else our neighbors need to stay in their homes. We are hoping to raise $25,000 so we can keep at least 27 of our neighbors housed during this crisis. Your contribution is a show of support and solidarity for your neighbors in Logan Square, Hermosa, Belmont Cragin and beyond.
