Hello,

I am Travis’s wife Shellby. Recently we have received so many messages and calls in regards to wanting to help us in anyway you can up to and including wanting to take over some of our bills. We are so incredibly overwhelmed and thankful from the outpouring we have received from everyone. Of course everyone who asks to help, we always give them our independent minded response of, “Thank you so much but we will figure it out some way.”

Of course that way of thinking we had was built into us for all of our lives and now things have changed and we both have come to the conclusion that we do need help.

Our lives changed Monday. After days of rain we had an overnight freeze. Sunday night Travis was outside for I know at least 45 minutes retightening his straps and checking his load and truck making sure everything was ready to go for the next day like he has always done religiously. Anyone that truly knows Travis knows he is very particular with the care of his things. We went to bed Sunday night. Monday morning he gave me a kiss and told me he loved me and as soon as I fell back asleep my brother in law was beating down the front door telling me Travis had wrecked.

Words can not describe what I felt nor his mother, brother, or nephew when we got to the bottom of the mountain and seen that truck and him laying on the ground.

Our God guided him down that mountain and placed a hedge around him. He was pinned inside the cab of the truck when it caught fire and as the flames started around him, God gave him the strength and determination to find a way out and guided him through the smallest of spaces. Then God provided a friend and off duty paramedics to be in the same location as him literally seconds within the wreck.

Travis is quite literally our very own Christmas miracle.

The road ahead is going to be tough but I know that he and we will all come through it. Next week he gets to start Physical Therapy for his back and neck as well as following up with ortho for his leg that he will most likely have to have surgery on again but we are remaining hopeful that maybe just maybe he will not have to have surgery. Luckily he only sustained second degree burns so he escaped having to have a skin graft done however, the burns are across the top of his left foot where his sock had melted to his foot and over the length of his left shin.

With all of that being said, the probability of him being able to return to any type of work relatively soon is none and rightfully so. His body is going to have to heal and it is going to be weeks to months before it is but that doesn’t stop him pushing himself.

He was the bread winner for our family and over the past few months we had several set backs that have almost depleted our funds. The week prior to Monday he was able to start back to work and we were able to catch everything up and get Christmas shopping done for our kids. Thankfully the Lord saw it fit to bless me with a job back in August that gave me the ability to be home so I am able to take care of him and have health insurance that covers our family so the majority of the upcoming medical bills will get paid but as we all know, insurance eats a chunk of your check and I do not make enough at the moment to cover all of our current bills not including the upcoming expenses.

I am creating this simply because so many have asked if they could either make the go fund me or want me to help them make it to get our story out.

On behalf of all of our family, we thank every single one of you for your prayers and love that have been shown towards us in so many different ways.

Sincerely,
Travis and Shellby Renfro
