This campaign is entirely personal and meant to support our family.

A note about the funds

The support we have received over the past two years has helped our family of six through famine and severe shortages, more than seven displacements, temporary shelters, transportation, our children’s education, and the basic costs of daily life.

The funds reach us gradually, month by month. At times, accessing cash in Gaza has also meant losing a significant part of a transfer to cash-out fees, as normal banking services have become largely unavailable. We rely entirely on this campaign to support our family.

Because of GoFundMe’s policies, our friend Candice Rose Valenzuela,

a teacher in the USA, is listed as the beneficiary. She receives the funds on our behalf and helps transfer them to us in Gaza.

We are deeply grateful to Candice for taking on this responsibility and for being the bridge that allows the support we receive from people around the world to reach our family. Her help has meant more to us than we can put into words.

Our Story:

On December 25, 2023, everything changed for our family.

We left our home in northern Nuseirat under heavy bombardment. It was the first time in our lives that we had been forced to leave our home. It was not the last.

Since then, we have been displaced more than seven times, moving between Mawasi Rafah, Deir al-Balah, and temporary shelter with relatives in Nuseirat. Each time, we carried what we could and left behind another place we had tried to make feel like home.

Today, we have returned to our home in Nuseirat, Alhamdulillah. But returning home has not meant returning to the life we had before.

We are rebuilding our daily life while trying to give our children something that still resembles childhood: school, learning, routines, and the simple feeling that tomorrow can be different from today.

Who we are

Dr. Hasan Al Qatrawi — Father

Hassan holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology and is a university lecturer at Al-Aqsa University. He is also a published novelist whose work explores displacement, trauma, memory, and loss.

His second novel, Rawan’s Café, was written while we were displaced in a tent in Rafah. During a time when so much of our life had been taken away, writing remained one way for him to continue his work and hold on to a part of himself.

Munira El Najar — Mother

I am an English teacher with more than 18 years of experience in education. I am completing my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and was recognized among the Top 10 Teachers in Palestine in 2022. I am also a mother of four, continuing my academic work while raising our children through circumstances no parent should have to navigate.

Our children

Ali, 18 Hei is studying Multimedia at Al-Aqsa University and is trying to continue his university online education despite the circumstances around him.

Lamis, 16 She is a hardworking student who dreams of becoming a dermatologist.

Mohammed, 14 We call him Newton. He is curious and determined, and dreams of becoming a surgeon.

Aboud, 6 Our youngest is now in Grade 1. At his age, school should be about a new bag, a uniform, friends, teachers, and the excitement of learning. For us, protecting that small part of childhood matters deeply.

What our family needs

The campaign helps us meet the needs of a family of six, including:

Food and drinking water

Medical care and medicines

School supplies, uniforms, and other educational needs

Transportation, including when displacement becomes necessary

Electricity and other basic utilities

Household essentials

Repairs and essential items needed to make our home livable

These are ongoing needs, not one-time expenses.

For two years, this campaign has been our family’s main source of support. Our children are growing, their needs are changing, and we are still trying to rebuild a stable daily life after everything we have been through.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has stood beside our family throughout these years.
