First - thank you for taking the time to read this and for your donation consideration.
Many of you may know that my uncle, Rene Madrigal, has been battling COVID for about 3 weeks now. On January 28, 2021 Rene was rushed to the hospital by ambulance because his symptoms had significantly worsened. It was immediately made clear that this was not going to be an easy battle: he was diagnosed with double pneumonia and placed on oxygen.
Last Tuesday (Feb. 2nd), Rene stopped breathing and was immediately intubated in an effort to save his life. Shortly after, he was given a 10% chance of coming out of this nightmare. It's now a week later and Rene is making small improvements - he is beginning to breath on his own a little bit more each day and his organs are in excellent health.
Earlier this afternoon, his family received the news that his critical care doctor saw a window of opportunity to give Rene a tracheostomy to (hopefully) prevent long term damage and assist his lungs in healing. The procedure was a success and his surgeon was able to perform the trach without any issues. At this time Rene is stable and resting and will continue to be sedated for another week or two.
If you know anything about my uncle, you know that he is rather stubborn, hates hospitals , medicine and needles, has a lifelong passion for cars, in recent years he has become a competitive paintballer, he is an animal lover (I know his beloved Kimba & Sabrina are watching over him right now) and above all else - Rene is a family man. He is incredibly generous and would do anything and everything he can for his family and friends. Now it's our turn to help him.
Malenda (my aunt) has also been battling COVID for a month now and is slowly on the mend. My cousin Faline, who has recovered from COVID, has been holding down the fort to help both Rene and Malenda as best as she can. Celena is thankfully healthy but, naturally, is feeling the stress of the current situation. Rene's shop - RAM Auto Repair- has been closed for approximately 3 weeks and just re-opened yesterday with the help of his long time assistant, Jose.
Many of you have asked what you can do to help at a time when we can't physically be there to support Malenda, Faline, Celena, and of course, Rene. Your donation will help cover the costs of medical bills, managing daily expenses while Rene recovers, and any needed assistance when he returns home. Rene is strong and he is a fighter but has a long road ahead.
I know that times are tough right now for so many - if you are unable to donate, please keep Rene, Malenda, Celena, Faline, and Rene's doctors & nurses in your prayers. You can also help by sharing this with anyone whose lives may have been touched by Rene.
I would also like to make it clear that this will be the only Go Fund Me for Rene and all donations will be managed by the Madrigal family. We will continue to update as more information becomes available.
With Love,
Yvette Angel
