Renee's Fight is Our Fight

Our neighbor and beloved NMB middle-school teacher Renee Jeffrey is in a fight for her life and needs our support. After more than a year of pain and suffering – including multiple hospital stays, doctors’ visits, procedures, medications and having to take leave from work – Renee was finally diagnosed on September 13 with advanced Stage III rectal cancer which is affecting other organs. She has already undergone one major surgery and is now receiving at least 5 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy to shrink her tumor, which will be followed by another surgery and then additional radiation and chemo.

Renee is a wife, mother and colleague, as well as a friend to many in our community. She has been a teacher for 24 years, 14 of them in NMB, touching countless lives and making a tremendous positive impact. Extremely capable and with a huge heart, she is always one of the first to step up when she sees a need, inspiring her students to reach for their dreams while loving others and serving their communities. Renee is a mainstay of the annual Polar Plunge benefiting Special Olympics SC, and the energy and excitement she sparks in her students for this cause has led them to become the school’s top fundraisers more than once. She has also been active in supporting various veterans’ organizations, along with other charitable endeavors.

This incredible lady now finds herself in a position to be on the receiving end of philanthropy. She missed many days of work last year and is currently out on medical leave, although she misses her students and Chief family terribly. Some of her daily treatments occur locally but others require out of state travel. As one can imagine, bills and other related expenses are piling up and becoming an additional burden to an already serious and difficult life situation. It is a humbling place to be, but Renee is grateful for any and all support. Renee has faced this fight head on, and done so with courage, grace, and strength. Let’s help Renee with her fight.
