Renee had been suffering for more than 6 months with lower back pain and left leg sciatic pain. In November of 2019, she was diagnosed with a bone cancer called chondrosarcoma, a very rare cancer that creates tumors made of cartilage and eats through bone. When her tumor was found, it was the size of a softball and had eaten through her sacrum (a pivotal bone at the bottom of your pelvis, used for skeletal stabilization and strength). She then underwent two surgeries: one to remove the tumor, and one to place an "erector set" of titanium to stabilize her spine and pelvis. The surgeries were followed by intensive, inpatient rehabilitation at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston. After 55 days of hospitalization and rehab, she was able to return home. But home now included a wheelchair, a wheelchair ramp, a hospital bed downstairs (their bedroom is on the second floor), and other modifications to compensate and adapt for her general debility and limitations in daily function. She had a follow up MRI on Feb 19, which concluded that the cancer had returned. She has a new tumor in her pelvis, possibly even larger than the original one. The doctor also found spots on her liver and right lung. She admitted to MD Anderson on Feb 27, and began chemotherapy March 4. Billy and the girls, as well as Renee's parents and Billy's mom are doing the best that they can during all of this, but as you can imagine, it's been a struggle. Thankfully, the hospital is close to both their home, and the girls' school. Lizzy and Clara miss their mother tremendously, and are too young to understand this horrible disease. The Blaize and Templet families have been truly blessed by an abundance of prayers and love from friends and family. Everyone is asking what they can do to help. A small group of family members have decided to try and provide a means for anyone to help out. This Go Fund Me account is being set up to help ease Renee's and Billy's worry and give them some sort of peace and relief about handling day to day expenses, in addition to the ever growing medical bills. No amount is too small, and all is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Please continue to send prayers for this sweet family for comfort, strength, and courage to fight this cancer
