Rene Silva End of Life Care

Donation protected
My father Rene Silva has always been a loving, genuine humble man with the purest heart that god created in him. He devoted his life to his grandchildren, my sister and myself until his very last moment. The unconditional love he gave us was so unique and so heart taking.

On February 6, 2020, my father suffered a major stroke that left him in a coma on life support. Doctors had given us no hope and they suggested that we should take my father off life support as he was in a vegetative state. With a lot of prayers and support from our loved ones he started breathing on his own. 2 weeks later he started to open one eye and that gave us hope despite of what the doctors would say.  Our family was by his side continuing to have faith that a miracle could happen. Unfortunately, once COVID  19 hit. All the facilities shut down and we weren’t allowed to visit. Although my father is stable, his health declined from then on.

While still fighting this pandemic, it has been difficult to start the process due to the risk of this virus. With a broken heart we have decided to remove his tubes and allow natural death to occur. We as a family feel that my father is continuing to suffer and feel that it is time to allow him to be at peace.

10 months later and I still can’t get it through my head that no matter what I LOST MY FATHER. My sister Heidy & I stand hurt accepting what must be done and try to be ready for what is coming. I lost a part of me but all I am left with is to thank GOD for blessing me with the most amazing father I could ever ask for; one who has left a legacy in many of our hearts. This decision has been a nightmare that I wish I can wake up from. We gave it a chance, we truly hoped for a miracle but with a broken heart we have only come to realize that within time he has given up and the end is near… we must let him go and let him be at peace as hard as this situation is for me and my family.

I thank all of you for your empathy, love and support through this tough year. I am asking for everyone’s continuous help to give him the most respected burial and viewing that he deserves. No donation is too little, and every donation is appreciated. If you aren’t in any position to donate or share, all I ask is that you pray. Pray that God gives us the strength to get through this terrible situation.  God bless you all & please stay safe.
