Martinez Family Fire Recovery

In the blink of an eye, life can change.

For Jenn, Rodney and their family this happened on Thursday afternoon (04/28). They went to an appointment and a few hours later their home and life as they knew it were changed forever.

Their home caught fire (cause unknown) and was destroyed. They have lost everything except their birth certificates and a few important legal documents. The biggest loss of all was that of their beloved family dogs: Onyx and Fuego. Little Luna girl, miraculously, was found alive on Friday 04/29 in their home and the vet gave her a clean bill of health! There are no words to describe the devastation or the magnitude of their tragic loss and upheaval.

They are thankful they still have each other, but now begins the long road to recovering their home and their life. This means not only rebuilding and refurnishing their house, but maintaining a reliable and safe place to sleep, and providing clothes, food, and stability for their children: RJ, Jordan, Raelynn, and Journee.

We are raising funds to help provide stability and support logistically and emotionally as they grieve and begin the process of rebuilding their life. Rodney and Jenn give so much of themselves to others - now they need our help. Of course there are a bazillion needs and countless things to replace. Any donation amount will be welcome with immense gratitude.

About the Fundraising Team: Deena, Nicole, and Sarah:

Deena has been friends with Jenn since they were knee high to a grasshopper. Nicole is Jenn’s older sister. Sarah is Jenn’s cousin. 

How the Funds will get to the Martinez Family:

Deena is working with Jenn to deposit the GoFundMe dollars into a fresh bank account dedicated solely to the Martinez fire recovery. Jenn and Rodney are interested in keeping this money separate for now. The fundraising team will wire the money to Deena’s account  where they will then contribute money to effectively “cancel out” the GoFundMe fees and transfer 100% of the stated funds raised to Jenn and Rodney’s new account. This ensures Jenn and Rodney receive the full amount of donated funds here and nothing is lost to fees.  

How the funds will be spent:

Once Jenn and Rodney have found a place to stay (at least temporarily) these funds will be used to replace household goods/appliances/clothes/toys/school supplies/kitchen utensils and food/furniture including beds, couches, dressers, tables, chairs-really the list is endless.  Depending on total amount - they may also be used as part of a down payment on a new home and/or towards rent on their interim home. Exactly how and when the funds will be spent remains to be seen as Jenn and Rodney are still navigating and working with insurance to understand next steps and when/where/how they will live until they are able to purchase a new home.
