Renata's Rally Against Renal Failure

This is Renata. She’s 42 years old and for 25+ years has been an independent, dependable, respected Customer Service Representative in the Retail Grocery and Telecommunications industries.

In late 2021, Renata was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure. No prior life threatening health issues or concerns. Immediate treatment began with medications and biweekly dialysis. She attempted to continue working, but eventually had to stop, due to the numerous doctors appointments, frequency of dialysis (now up to three times a week), and overall extreme fatigue and pain that made her too weak to work consistently. The diagnosis came on the heels of the tragic death of her younger brother, after which she was literally operating on autopilot, with no real chance to properly grieve. Those circumstances, combined with the doctor’s orders that took from a job she absolutely loved and was thriving in, left her feeling lost, confused, and devastated. She never had to depend on anybody for anything and now had to depend on everybody for everything.

Though she’s now receiving disability, it only covers her insurance and some of her basic necessities. We all understand that the cost of living has increased and for those on a fixed income, it’s becoming more and more difficult to maintain. She is a proud person, who typically does not ask for help, but when it comes to getting to Doctor’s appointments that aren’t local, she usually has to borrow funds just to get back and forth. She desperately needs help with Medical Travel Expenses (Gas and Lodging). She drives herself most of the time, but understands there will be instances where she physically cannot. Those trips require additional funds.

As she is working on becoming as healthy as possible to qualify for the UNOS and the Kidney Transplant Recipient List at Duke University Medical Center, she is traveling for evaluations by not only her regular doctors, but Nephrologists–those who specialize in Kidney Care. We are hopeful that her miracle will come sooner than later, so that she can have the best quality of life possible.

I’ve created this GoFundMe on her behalf, to help ease the financial strain of out-of-network care/testing/evaluations and medical travel expenses.

Would you help? Any amount given is helpful and greatly appreciated! Thank you for your prayers and anything you are able to donate!
