Renaissance Man Needs His Van!!
Donation protected
John Rodgers is an 80-year-old Veteran in need of help getting his transportation up and running, both for personal use and as a business vehicle.
John has had his Volkswagen Vanagon for 22 years and uses it for transporting his pottery and ceramic setup. He had a stroke in 2014, leaving him with right-sided paralysis. He has recovered to a great degree with therapy. He lost his studio during the long recovery period, and then his rebuilt Vanagon engine gave up the ghost. He has obtained a replacement engine and is desperate to get the van up and running again but hasn’t the funds to complete the job.
Some history about John:
John is a bit of a Renaissance man with an incredible life history. Besides being a Navy veteran, John has worked in the medical field, as a science teacher, and as a teacher of aviation technology and pilot training. He was a bush pilot in Alaska, and is a potter and an artist. John left Alaska and settled in Birmingham, Alabama, to be near family. He is a senior member of the Alabama Designer-Craftsmen and remains active in ceramics, pottery, and painting.
John apparently has more lives than a cat, having had close encounters of the unpleasant kind with barracuda, moose, a mad loon (of the bird variety), and a chainsaw. Surviving two car wrecks and several “airplane incidents”, John was also struck by lightning while working at his potter’s wheel in his garage. You can’t keep a good man down!
Many in the community of Vanagon owners know John to be a kind, caring and compassionate human being as well as a talented artist. Let’s help John get his van, his life, and his pottery business back on the road.
