ROAR stands for Remy's Organization for Animal Rehabilitation- a Non profit organization in Bengaluru, India that works towards giving paraplegic animals another chance to live a happy and fulfilling life.
Story of ROAR
The concept of ROAR cropped up after the passing away of Remy, the first paraplegic dog to be rescued by the founder of ROAR, Anand Krishnan Srinivasan. On the way to work, Anand saw Remy dragging himself on the side of the road, with his hind legs badly bruised and full of blood. Without a moment's hesitation, the dog was picked up and taken to the nearest vet, where Remy was diagnosed for multiple spine
fracture, being a victim of rash and reckless driving. Euthanasia was suggested as he would never be able to use this hind legs again. However, Anand, his family and friends came together and got a dog wheelchair for Remy. He used to love going for walks on his wheelchair and lived a happy life till 2016.
Unfortunately, this is not an unusual scene in India. Many stray animals get injured due to a variety of reasons. What is lacking, is a system of support, care and rehabilitation for these animals. And thus ROAR was formed with a mission of providing a better quality of life to injured, sick, abandoned and paraplegic animals.
There are 30+(and counting) paraplegic dogs at ROAR, who take turns in running race on their wheel carts. There are many more paraplegic dogs waiting for access into ROAR to become permanent residents. There are also 20+ differently abled dogs who have other health issues that need constant monitoring. ROAR cannot function well without the help and support of kind- hearted animal lovers.
Food and medical help of a normal dog comes to roughly Rs 3500 ($50) per dog, per month and Rs 5000($75) for paraplegic dogs. Each dog wheelchair costs Rs.40000($500)
This fund raiser is set up to raise funds for buying wheelchairs for the dogs and fund their medical expenses. Feel free to donate as minimum as a dollar as every dollar you donate to ROAR means quite a bit for these dogs in need. Lastly, if you would like to sponsor a passive adoption of any dog, please get in touch with us at [email redacted]
