On May 10th, 2023, Jake and I made the devastating discovery that our sweet angel Remi had left this earth. He is on his next greatest adventure, either romping around heaven or on an intergalactic quest as we often questioned his heritage being an alien.

We are bereft and saddened that we only had 3.5 years incredible years together. I wish we could have had another decade. I’d give anything to hear his heavy footsteps trodding along or hear his excited meows of joy. But that’s not life and we can only move forward with the memories of these moments. And right now I really don’t know what to do with myself except turn this into something positive for the community.

I picked up Remi on an urgent rescue call for the rescue I was volunteering for in December 2019. I was only meant to keep him for a week-end until we found a more permanent foster family, the timing was really bad to adopt a family member.

When I saw his tiny five week old body, hardly the size of my fist, I swore he found his home and that I’d love him and take care of him for his entire life. And his entire life from that moment was truly a delight to us all.

I’m grateful for all the support we’ve received from friends who loved him in person and those who loved him through his hilarious antics I posted on Instagram. It gives me comfort knowing that his little corner of the internet brought snippets of joy to a lot of people. Imagine the honour of that joy on a daily basis.

Thousands of kittens will be born and die this spring on the streets of Montreal. I would like to start a little campaign to raise money in Remi’s honour to help save more souls like him. I will donate all of the funds raised to the SPCA Mary Phelin orphan kitten program that I am currently on the foster family list for and to other rescues I follow depending on how much we manage to raise.
