Hello, my name is Francesca Di Bona. My family and I went to a kill shelter recently wanting to adopt a second dog. We adopted a small, 9-year-old, Labrador Retriever mix which had been in there for over 2 months. Remi was put in there after her family died of old age. When we got her, they had confirmed with us that there were no medical issues and she was perfectly fine. We took her to the vet the day after taking her home for a check-up, and the doctor said she had all of these rotted teeth that were clearly hurting her badly. They said that the previous owner must have known about it and decided to leave her untreated because she was old anyway. The vet said the teeth need to be taken out in order to stop the pain Remi is having, which would cost us a few thousand. They also discovered she had a heart murmur which indicated that she needed an echocardiogram, which costs an extra $600. The vet suggested that we ask the shelter if they could help cover some of the cost because they gave us the dog saying she was perfectly fine. My mom contacted them, and they said that we could give her back but they could not help money-wise. We knew that if we gave her back, they would kill her, and we could never let that happen. We have grown to love Remi. She is the sweetest girl ever, and we want to give her the best quality of life possible with your help.
