Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out with kind words and/or advice and those who were able to donate to help me cover his expenses. Love you all
7/10 update: Remi has been diagnosed with large cell high grade lymphoma, which is an aggressive cancer of the lymphatic system. While treatment can extend survival, even with chemotherap most cats with large cell lymphoma don't survive longer than 6-12 months.
He’s already survived 2+ months with the tumor so I fear his time (before suffering) is coming up quick. He’ll be going on a steroid today to help reduce pain and inflammation, then saying goodbye in 2-3 weeks. I hope to say goodbye while he still has some high spirits - thank you to everyone who shared their stories and helped me come to this conclusion.
6/30 update: Remi is eating less and has lost weight. We have him on an appetite stimulant. He is otherwise acting the same, still excited to greet me when I come home and snuggles with me at night purring away.
6/25 update: biopsy confirmed cancer but we need stains to know what kind of cancer and if it can be treated with chemo or radiation. Results from the stains can take 14-20 days. The tumor is in an aggressive spot, wrapping around his neck, and not many vets are confident they would be able to remove it all.
6/18 update: cytology was inconclusive so a biopsy is needed.
My cat Remi developed a concerning mass on his shoulder in early May that required x-rays and cytology. Cytology will tell us if it’s cancerous, but either way it will need to be surgically removed. Any support toward his medical care would be deeply appreciated.
Remi:
In 2015, I moved to Columbia, MO, with my kitty, Pook, for grad school. I had always lived with people who had cats, so this was Pook’s first time alone and clearly he needed a friend. Cue Remi. I got Remi at the local shelter. I really wanted a kitten, but Remi (who was 6+ months old and so deemed an adult) grabbed my shirt as I tried to walk by toward the kittens. Remi was a feral kitty found all by himself in the woods before ending up at the shelter. Remi and Pook hit it off immediately, cuddling and playing together. Two months later, Pook passed away unexpectedly at only four years old. I had taken him to the vet for other concerns (ended up being pancreatitis) and when they put him under to get an ultrasound, his heart stopped. That was my first pet loss and Remi is what got me through that.
Ten years later and Remi is still my rock. He follows me everywhere I go, talks to me nonstop, and sleeps by my head every night. He loves attention and will greet everyone who walks in the door.
