Remember Kapoho

Donation protected

We are the Dortch family, which consists of Chris, Hollie, and our four daughters (ages 6, 10, 12, and 14).

A Hawaiian volcano recently destroyed our home in Hawaii. We lived in Kapoho before we were evacuated shortly before our home and neighborhood was wiped out. All that we had is now under 40 feet of lava.

The incredible fish filled tide-pools and magnificent beach community was one of Hawaii's gems. Those that lived near Kapoho, and those who vacationed there, all now mourn the loss of Kapoho. We want to remember the great and wonderful times we had in Kapoho and will always be thankful we were able to experience some of the wonder and beauty of that amazing place.

We have organized aerial footage, underwater footage, photos, and news clips that we intend to share with all. We are also seeking additional contributions of photos and videos, which we will compile and make available to the public on a website entitled RememberKapoho.com. We hope these images and videos will help people remember the good times that were enjoyed in Kapoho, especially now, during this time of distress and mourning.

Collecting all of of this media, making it searchable, and keeping it organized on a public website, will require time-consuming setup, regular updates, and ongoing hosting fees. Considering that we now have very little, we are hoping that there are others who will help us memorialize Kapoho for all.
