About Theresa:
Maria Theresa Coronel Fuchs was born to Reynaldo Peralta Coronel and Victoria Sison on June 9, 1978 at Kaiser Hospital in Redwood City, California. She was the younger of two daughters and was named after Theresa Cabebe, Victoria’s mother who had died from appendicitis complications when Victoria was 2 years old.
As a baby, Victoria described Theresa as an easy-going baby that slept and ate well. Theresa was adoringly nicknamed “Riza” and “Therese” and is still lovingly called these names by her closest relatives today. Being that both her parents were from the Ilocos region in the Philippines, her older sister, Melanie, would call her “Ading,” or “younger sibling” in Ilocano, and she would call Melanie “Manang” or “older sister.”
Theresa and her family lived in Daly City, California at the time of her birth. In 1980, the Coronels moved to a house on Greenpoint Street in Newark, California. It was here, on days that her father worked on front yard projects, that Theresa learned to ride a bike, to roller skate, ride down the driveway on furniture dollies, and to run through the sprinklers.
At an early age, Theresa had a cool confidence and assertiveness about her, traits which would carry on into adulthood. She would memorize books, like Curious George Gets a Letter, and recite them out loud with ease. She would stand in front of the bathroom mirror and make up toothpaste commercials while brushing her teeth. She would be completely content sitting and observing those around her, not being the center of attention at any occasion. She would try out new hairstyles or accessories to match her clothes. She knew what she wanted and didn't think twice about decisions she made.
From kindergarten to 6th grade she attended Milani Elementary School. She always loved to read and learn. Her father would take her to the library often to check out new books and every summer, Theresa participated in the library’s summer reading program until she was old enough to volunteer to help younger readers with the program. Some of her favorite series were The Babysitters Club, Sweet Valley High, VC Andrews, Choose Your Own Adventure, Mad Magazines/Books, and Family Circus.
Theresa not only excelled academically, she also shone creatively. She would often draw and won awards as a child for her artwork. She sketched clothing designs and wrote stories with illustrations. She would imagine a play in her head, charge her parents money to see her show, and bring her play to life. She took ballet and tap dance classes and always looked forward to performing on stage. She expressed herself through fashion trends: wearing a Swatch watch, jelly shoes, rubber bracelets, and handpicked charms on her charm necklace.
Music became a passion when Theresa began playing the flute and piano in 4th grade. She would listen to every genre of music and tried to capture her favorite popular songs with a cassette player she received for Christmas from her grandparents. Her first cassette tape was Debbie Gibson's Out of the Blue and her first concert was with Rick Astley opening for Tiffany and New Kids on the Block.
Theresa enjoyed having adventures. Some of her fondest memories from childhood were family trips to explore the western half of the country, Southern California, National Parks, and Canada. Countless adventures and misadventures at family parties in Daly City, South Bay, and Southern California also held special meaning for her.
The Coronel family moved to a newly built home on Mountain Drive in Fremont in 1987. Theresa attended Thornton Junior High and American High School. In school, she was driven to do well in all her classes and was eager to be involved because she loved to contribute. Throughout high school, she was active in countless clubs and activities, was on the volleyball team, took on various leadership roles including Senior Class President, and played the flute in marching and concert band. She was kind, thoughtful, and well-liked by those who knew her. She graduated in 1996 and with the numerous scholarships and grants she received, she headed down to University of Southern California, her first choice college.
While Theresa worked at one of her favorite stores, Banana Republic, and was focused on her classes, she also had fun at USC. She traveled around the country playing the flute in the USC Marching Band and she built friendships with her broadcast journalism friends and with her sorority sisters at Zeta Epsilon Phi. She always had such great pride in being a Trojan and she placed a USC sticker on her first car, a gold Saturn. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science in 2000, she continued to be a faithful alumni and wore her college jersey whenever she could watch USC sports.
After college, Theresa decided that she did not want to pursue broadcast journalism as it took her too far away from family. Her job hunt did not take long. She was hired at Logitech in Fremont as a Marketing Coordinator and often spoke of how she enjoyed her 10-minute door-to-door commute.
With the help of their parents, Theresa and Melanie bought a Fremont townhouse together in 2001. They lived there for a few years with Samer, Theresa's best friend from high school, and Theresa made sure that the townhouse was pristine and tastefully decorated.
After work and on weekends, Theresa practiced and performed as a b-girl (female breaker) with a Bay Area hip hop group. With her slick sense of style and her crisp dance moves, it is no wonder that later on in life, her nieces' impression of her would be of someone who could pick up any choreography. She continued to dance with the group for a few years until she found roller derby.
Who would voluntarily sign up and compete in roller derby? Theresa did! And she was the jammer, the scoring player. Known in the league as "Lowdown Ruthless," she took advantage of her 4'10" height and tormented the opposition by slipstreaming throughout the track, weaving in and out of her Silicon Valley Roller Girls teammates and the opposing team. She would come out of practices and games completely beat up but feeling totally exhilarated from the rush she felt skating and playing.
After 4 years at Logitech, she left for a position at Acer America Corporation. It was here that she found her calling and continued to work for the next 15 years as a Senior Event Manager. Theresa managed many of the Acer activations at industry-wide events such as /STE, CES, and VMWorld. She was a pure professional and was very well respected throughout the industry, nationally, and globally. Colleagues and vendors knew that all events or projects managed by Theresa were polished, run efficiently and effectively, and creative. She had the reputation of being dependable, detail oriented, organized, and a problem solver in any challenge. She built not only work relationships at Acer but sincere friendships that lasted through her career.
In 2005, Theresa joined eharmony.com. After she completed her online profile, she was told that she had no possible matches and to check back in a month. A month later, Theresa had four possible matches and Ryan Fuchs was one of them. After two months of communicating via messaging, on June 29, 2005, Ryan picked up Theresa for their first dote, an Oakland Athletics baseball game. Theresa was so giddy when she answered the door. They both knew it was kismet when they saw each other's eHarmony profile pictures for the first time, and they were wearing the same shirt only in different colors - "I do my own stunts."
Ryan proposed to Theresa in front of family at her grandparents' 50th Anniversary Party at Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, California. On September 20, 2008, they returned to the area to be married at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with a celebration that followed at Cypress Ridge Golf Course. Theresa planned her destination wedding with a l 930's theme. Many personal touches and details went into the execution of her plan, including having the USC bond perform at the reception, renting a car to fit the era, and hiring stylists to ensure the glamour of the 30's was not lost on the mothers and bridal party. She was a radiant bride and so ecstatic to be marrying the love of her life.
Theresa and Ryan bought their house in Livermore, California in 2009. It was a foreclosure at the time they purchased and, under Theresa's vision, Ryan and his father, Jerry, renovated the house to make it a warm and happy home. During this time of renovation, Theresa learned she was pregnant and was overjoyed. Before the birth of their first child, Ryan bought Theresa a puppy whom they named Baxter. Even though they adopted another dog, Tennyson, later, Baxter would end up being Theresa's dog and later James' growing up buddy.
Theresa was a beautiful person, inside and out, but it was when she was pregnant, she absolutely glowed. She gave birth to James Ryan Fuchs on July 7, 2010. She had some challenges with breastfeeding but, as in anything that Theresa did, she did not complain or wallow in self-defeat. She moved forward and James continued to grow healthy and strong. Madison Rose Fuchs was born on December 7, 2012 and Myla Katherine Fuchs followed on February l, 2017. She was so happy that James would have a sister to grow up with like Ryan had and that the girls had a sister to grow up with like she had.
Ryan and her children were Theresa's number one passion and she was excited and eager to do anything for her family. Armed with her creativity and thoughtfulness, she mode a special birthday dress for Madison, planned superhero, fairy, and princess themed birthday parties, created personalized blankets, produced detailed Halloween costumes, and helped with any and all school projects. Her shopping savviness was the best tool she had for buying household needs, individualized presents for special occasions, and appliances that you never knew you needed.
In August 2018 Theresa and Ryan celebrated their 10-year anniversary with their own trip to Maui. They made the most of their alone time together and went on a number of adventures including biking down Haleakala Crater after watching the sunrise, taking a helicopter tour, and rappelling down waterfalls.
Over the years, Theresa's work took her to many countries and cities around the world, but trips with her family were closest to her heart: North Dakota to visit Ryan's family on the farm, Washington to visit Ryan's sister and her family, Southern California to visit family and close family friends, Disney World during Thanksgiving for a family trip with Theresa's side of the family, and Arroyo Grande and Pismo Beach to visit Theresa's grandparents and other family members.
On July 30, 2019, upon returning home from a family trip to North Dakota, Theresa was taken too soon in a car crash in Idaho.
To capture Theresa's beautiful life and essence in words is not possible. She was a beloved daughter, dearest sister, a cherished wife, a devoted mother, a caring friend, and a wonderful woman.
Her light, her smile, her laughter, her strength, and her spirit will be missed beyond words can describe.
