On Nov 6th, our cousin Sergio Humberto Padilla Hernandez passed away due to covid-19 complications. He was 28 years old.

On Nov. 5th, after battling covid and losing 90% of his lung function, doctors decided to place him on a ventilator for fears that his rapidly deteriorating condition would inevitably lead to his loss of life. Having lost his older sister Dolores (30) in August, also from covid 19 complications and fearing the worst, Sergio decided to post a heartbreaking good-bye video on facebook for his loved ones. He passed away hours later.

First and foremost, Sergio was a loving father to his son, Sergio III and a loving husband. Sergio lived life to the fullest. He was a devout catholic and had a passion for helping others. Sergio was a dedicated nurse at the Municipal Hospital in Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico. Sergio worked tirelessly, dedicating his life to helping those affected by the virus,  amid this pandemic which has hit his home state of Chihuahua particularly hard.

Sergio is survived by his parents, Sergio Padilla and Guadalupe Hernandez Padilla. His wife Denise. His son Sergio III. His sisters, Grace & Carla , and his many friends and family who’s lives he touched.

My name is Arturo Hernandez. I set up this account along with my brothers Antonio and Beto. We are Sergio’s cousins and we live in Madera California. Since his post last Thursday, his video has spread online on social media throughout Mexico and the rest of the world. His story was covered by various local news organizations in his home state of Chihuahua in recent days, honoring his memory and ultimate sacrifice. Unfortunately, his family has received very little assistance financially. Having lost their second child in the past 4 months to covid -19, our aunt and uncle are currently facing unimaginable hardships. Since our cousin Dolores’s passing in August, they have been asking for donations from family and friends to pay for maxed out credit cards, mounting hospital bills, funeral expenses and basic living expenses. Our aunt and uncle own a small furniture shop in Cuauhtemoc, but like many small businesses during this pandemic, they have been struggling immensely. They have put the family car up for sale and have sold nearly every possession of value leading up to Sergio’s passing.  We set up this go fund me account for a few reasons. 1.) With the hopes of being able to send them some financial relief as they deal with this very difficult time. And 2.) To set up a savings account for his son Sergio III. Any amount would help. Thank you very much and god bless.
