My mother, Sandra Kay Refior, better known as Sandy, unfortunately, passed on September 2nd, 2020. Sandy had been battling a sudden and severe diagnosis of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) for the past year. This chronic lung inflammatory disease limits the amount of oxygen that enters the body and takes the lives of roughly 1 American every 4 minutes.
Sandy is survived by her partner of 23 years, Richard I. Gonzalez; sons Eric Lee and Duane Michael Refior; daughter Angel Rene Gonzalez; grandchildren Sage, Tristyn and Draeven Refior; mother Susie Hook-McFann; sisters Linda Murt and Debra Rich; brother Carl Hook, Jr.; and her Maltese puppy Sammy. For those of you who had the pleasure of knowing Sandy, she was one of the most compassionate, generous, and tender people to have lived. This is best displayed in her innumerable cherished relationships, as a loving mother, and as a dedicated care-taker for the sick and elderly.
I, Angel Gonzalez, have created this gofundme account because numerous generous family members and friends have offered to help financially assist my family during this time of mourning.
Sandy was the head of a multi-generational household and while her physical loss is immeasurable, the lack of her financial contribution has had an immediate negative impact on those that she provided for.
Your donations will go to paying for funeral and death-related expenses, living expenses such as rent, food, and telephone, grief counseling, and in the general assistance to those who she has left behind.
My family and I know this is a difficult time for everyone right now and if you are not in the position to donate money, we completely understand. If you are looking for other ways to support us during our time of need we have greatly appreciated your homemade meals, cards, flowers, and kind words. Grieving in the time of COVID brings new and isolating challenges as family cannot travel, gather, or mourn together. However, with the aid of social platforms like Facebook and gofundme you all have made those of us in mourning feel seen and cared for. Therefore, we are incredibly thankful to have such attentive and gracious people in our lives.
