Remembering Samson
Donation protected
On January 6, 2017, our beloved 7.5 year old Goldendoodle suffered a hemangiosarcoma. A cancerous tumor ruptured in his spleen and once this happened, we were forced to make the most difficult and selfless decision; to let him peacefully and comfortable cross the Rainbow Bridge.
Samson went to the vet two weeks prior. His bloodwork, a full CBC panel, was PERFECT. He was eating, playful, and happy.
After talking with his medical team at Blue Pearl, with his vet at West Chelsea, and with a hemangiosarcoma specialist out of UPENN, it became clear this cancer is almost always found out too late. Dogs who were fine one day, collapse and die the next. It a sudden, horrible and shocking loss.
I've also found out many more people and their pets have gone through this.
University of Pennsylvania has specific research trials and a staff to not only try and find a way to prevent and cure, but to make the quality of life longer and better after diagnosis. After feeling what I've felt, I want to prevent anyone from having to go through this.
I have fought against human cancers for years. And so to lose my best friend to something I couldn't prevent or even treat, was devastating.
Samson loved and lived for exactly 7 years and 8 months - to the day. And so to honor him, I would like to give this Hemangiosarcoma department at UPENN a monetary gift that represents all of the wonderful days of his life (2,803). Samson gave and still gives much to many.
