Remembering Sam Monroe: Help With Treatment Costs
Our dad, Sam Monroe, passed away yesterday around 4pm, just one month shy of his 62nd birthday. Many of you know by now that Dad had been struggling with esophageal cancer for several months. On August 4, he went in to begin a new type of chemo treatment. During pre-treatment evaluations the doctors realized that there was nothing more they could do and that he would be beginning hospice care after an exhausting several night stay in the hospital. We have been in shock ever since and definitely did not expect that he would be gone less than two weeks later. The last few days were particularly difficult for him and he finally went to rest yesterday, August 16, late afternoon. He is no longer suffering and we will miss him every single day we live without him.
If you’ve ever had someone close to you battle cancer you know that it is an emotional and financial monster. One of Dad’s last wishes was that we would request financial help from the community through a GoFundMe. So, on behalf of Dad we’re asking for financial assistance in lieu of flowers, food or any other type of help or gift you might offer. This will relieve a burden for my dad’s wife, Jean, of the mounting bills for months of treatment, medications, equipment, ER visits, several-night hospital stays and now memorial expenses.
Dad was an incredibly hard worker, a selfless supporter, feisty yet patient, strong, courageous, unforgettably hilarious and had way too much common sense for his own good.
Thank you for your love and support during this difficult time.
