Saint was a 3 year old Yorkshire Terrier who was humanely euthanized following a vicious attack from another dog in the neighborhood. Saint was attacked during his afternoon walk where he was picked up and brutally attacked for roughly 5 minutes, and was aggressively shaken by his neck, chest, and abdominal region, causing numerous puncture wounds and placed in critical condition. He was immediately rushed to The Hope Center and Veterinary Surgical Center in Vienna, Va where the staff worked tirelessly overnight to stabilize him. Though the staff worked so hard to stabilize, intensive critical care was needed that owners could not afford, and even if they could, a positive outcome was questionable. Saint had multiple wounds which led him to being oxygen dependent, he received a blood transfusion, with wounds that were triaged initially that potentially needed major surgery past initial stabilization was achieved. Upon assessment the following day, Saints symptoms worsened including concerns for brachial plexus injuries- which despite recovery from initial trauma, concerns for him not walking/operating normally again were in question. Due to finical and quality of life concerns Saint was taken from this World June 8, 2021.
The dog who attacked Saint is still "at large". I hope the owner of dog responsible will come forward, but as of now that is not the case. During this traumatic event, contact information from suspected owner of the opposing dog was attempted. Unfortunately the phone number obtained from potential owner does not exist, and is a non working phone number. No dog should be blamed for their actions, but the owner should be. I am not looking for an 'eye for an eye' mentality, I just want to ensure the trauma Saint and fellow observers endured can be prevented as much as possible.
Proceeds from this page will contribute to paying off Saints hospital bill and I pledge to use the rest of proceeds to create awareness in the community of proper leash laws, waste management, and help fund behavioral assessments for dogs in need.
Saint was a classic Yorkie with an exuberant personality and loved everyone he met. He did not deserve to end his life in such a traumatic fashion. I thank everyone in advance for their gratudity and assisting in raising awareness. Ensure your leash properly contains your animal, understand your animals behavioral needs, and prevent such occurrences by not allowing such confrontations to happen.
Love you and miss you Saint.
