Remembering Richard Afolabi

I am setting up this memorial fund on behalf of Dr. Richard Afolabi's wife, Chinwe Afolabi, and their beautiful daughters, Sarah (age 8) and Tomi (age 5). As many of you know, Richard unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, June 23. This fund will help pay for funeral costs and assist Richard's family as they transition into a new life without him.
Until his death, Richard was a vibrant husband, father and friend who loved God and his family. He loved fitness and sports, played soccer at least once a week, and enjoyed coaching his daughter Sarah's soccer team. Richard also enjoyed outdoor hikes and loved to bring people together Most importantly, he loved authentically, always.
Richard's story is a long and interesting one. Richard arrived in Los Angeles in 2017 and settled his his family in Los Angeles in 2018. Prior to that, Richard and his family lived in Las Vegas, Canada and South Korea. Their journey started in Nigeria approximately 10 years earlier and led Richard to South Korea were he completed his PhD. He next moved to Las Vegas and thereafter, Canada. Richard was happiest when he and his family finally settled in Los Angeles.
When Richard arrived in Los Angeles in 2017, his hopes and dreams were just beginning to come true. For example, he had a dream job doing what he spent years training for on three different continents. And when his family joined him in 2018, his life was complete. Richard frequently shared with me that he was not thrilled that he had moved his family so much because of the toll it took on them. However, after arriving in Los Angeles, the days of being separated from his family were over and the many worries that Richard had previously experienced were in the past. Richard no longer worried about whether his family was eating properly, how they were doing without him, or what would be next. The plan was to settle in Los Angeles and have the kids grow up here.
Richard is gone, but his spirit lives on even more vibrantly in all of the lives that he touched. Please help us support Chinwe, Sarah and Tomi, as they continue the legacy of the husband and father they so dearly love and will no doubt forever miss.
