Sasha was the best dog. She became part of our family ten years ago because my daughter, Hannah, then in 7th grade, created a PowerPoint presentation detailing the reasons we needed another dog, saving her own money for the adoption fee, and choosing Sasha from the rescue. When Hannah got her own place, Sasha went with her.
On November 15, Hannah and Sasha were on their daily afternoon walk when a small off-leash dog attacked, biting Hannah and Sasha and leaving Sasha with severe, life-threatening injuries. We rushed Sasha to the emergency vet, where they did their best to patch her up. We went back the next day because her wounds looked infected. On the 17th, Sasha was septic, and we made the heartbreaking decision to let her go.
This wasn’t the first attack by the little dog. Three days before she attacked Sasha, she attacked another dog, whose injuries were not as severe as Sasha’s. The small dog’s owner paid for those vet bills. We were hoping he would extend the same kindness to us, especially since the fees for Sasha's treatment were significant, but so far, he has not responded.
We miss Sasha every single day. The trauma of the attack and those days of trying to save her will stay with us for a long time, but we know that eventually, the good memories of our sweet, snuggly, sassy dog will replace the trauma. She was such a very good dog.
Thanks so much for your help.
