Khy’s Journey — Our Brave Little Fighter
Our sweet boy Khy has been fighting since the very first moment he entered this world.
Khy was born at 33 weeks, already facing challenges most babies never have to face. From the start, the odds were stacked against him, but Khy never stopped showing us how strong he truly was.
On April 18, Khy had his first major procedure. As parents, handing your tiny baby over for surgery is one of the most terrifying things imaginable. But Khy fought through it.
Then on July 23, he needed another stent. Once again, he showed everyone around him that he was stronger than anyone expected.
On August 27, what we thought would be a quick visit for a simple diaper rash turned into something that would change our lives. Khy was admitted to the hospital, and from that moment forward our world became hospital rooms, machines, and prayers.
In early September, he needed yet another stent. Shortly after that, Khy had to be intubated. What we thought might only be temporary turned into two and a half months on a breathing tube. Every day we sat beside him, watching our tiny baby fight for every breath.
Eventually, we were faced with another heartbreaking decision as parents. Khy’s airway was collapsing, and the safest chance he had was receiving a tracheostomy. On November 11, Khy underwent trach surgery. Even after everything he had already endured, he kept fighting.
The months that followed were filled with ups and downs — small victories, setbacks, long nights, and constant prayers. But Khy never stopped showing us what resilience looked like.
Then came the surgery everyone had been waiting for, but also deeply feared.
On January 12, Khy went into major heart surgery. Even the surgeon admitted he was nervous because Khy had already faced so many complications. But once again, our boy proved everyone wrong.
Khy conquered it.
For a moment, we believed the hardest part might finally be behind us.
But on February 27 at 10 PM, our lives were forever changed.
Khy went into cardiac arrest. Our baby needed 10 minutes of CPR before his heart began beating again. After that moment, his little body started to go into multi-organ failure.
And yet… he kept fighting.
He was eventually able to come off the paralytic medications, and we held onto hope as we saw small signs of strength from him.
But on March 8, the unimaginable happened again.
Khy went into another cardiac arrest.
In the middle of the chaos, the alarms, and the team working around him, we as parents were faced with the most impossible decision any mother or father could ever imagine — making a quality-of-life decision for our baby.
Doctors had already told us that the second cardiac arrest had caused severe brain injury, and they did not believe he would recover from another one.
For 10 and a half months, Khy did nothing but fight.
He fought through surgeries.
He fought through tubes and machines.
He fought through procedures, setbacks, and moments that would break most adults.
But through every single moment of it, Khy was surrounded by something stronger than anything else — love.
He was loved beyond words by his family, by the nurses and doctors who cared for him, and by the countless people who prayed for him and followed his journey.
Our boy showed the world what true strength looks like in the smallest body.
Khy may have been tiny, but his fight, his courage, and the love he gave will leave a mark on our hearts forever.
He will always be our warrior.
And we will carry his story, his strength, and his love with us for the rest of our lives
