Remembering Mikola Mahiga
Donation protected
On February 10th 2022, our brother Mikola (aka Mike) died - two months short of the 2nd anniversary of our Dad’s death. I was in a Zoom meeting when I got the call.
Mike was undoubtedly a daring person. “Do or die” being his implicit mantra, the news of his death was not as painful as the thought of breaking the news to his sons who, at 9 & 6, grew to accept him as the ‘capture every moment’ Dad whose obsession with capturing key moments throughout their lives was his way of proudly claiming his own.
Death is devastating, yes, but what hurts most is watching how it slowly but surely sinks into our family’s reality. The anger, disbelief & tears are expected but nothing could have prepared us for the circumstances that are shaping this situation - dying in another country in the middle of COVID bears both financial and emotional costs that frankly we cannot afford. First Dad, now Mike. We have spent more than anticipated. It is exhausting and we need help.
The costs for a funeral and mass in CH as well as repatriation of his body to Tanzania is approximately CHF 23,700 broken-down as follows:
Costs Breakdown
A – Funeral Home, CH Mass and Flowers = 3,700 CHF
B – Repatriation of Mikola Mahiga to TZ = 20,000 CHF
