Remembering Mami Furuya

Dear Friends,
It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mami Furuya passed away unexpectedly yesterday, Tuesday, July 28th, 2020 leaving behind her husband, Takahito, and two daughters, Shizuno and Mikoto. Mami was one of the most loving, dedicated and proud mothers you could meet- always gloating of how much she loved her two daughters and how proud she was of the women they had become. Moreover, she was an amazing and committed wife to her husband, Takahito.
I know for many, this comes as a surprise, but with everything happening this year and how fast everything progressed, the family didn't have a chance to tell even those closest to them what was happening. Mami had been diagnosed with stage four endometrial cancer a few weeks ago after experiencing some pain in her lower stomach. While the prognosis was not good her time came sooner than anyone could have anticipated because of complications. The Furuya family wanted you all to know that they are overwhelmed with the flood of love and support they've received in the last 24 hours.
Okōden is the Japanese tradition of offering financial support in order to alleviate the mourning family the financial burden of the burial costs. In accordance with this tradition, friends of the Furuyas have set up this GoFund me. In lieu of flowers and other gestures and as a tribute to her culture, let us show the beautiful family she built our love and generous support during this painfully difficult time.
Rest in peace, Mami, for you were so loved.
