Remembering Kristians battle, we will never forget

My name is Jasmine. I’m writing this in honour of my “big” little brother Chenny, he was a gentle and quiet soul, with a surprising mastery of Wordle and a passion for geography. He often playfully quizzed me and my siblings on countries, showcasing his impressive knowledge. As a child, he was not only incredibly smart but also the most endearing kid you could imagine. His kindness was a beacon of light, and he had a special talent for lifting our spirits. Embracing his role as a big brother, Chen cared deeply for Jeremy, our youngest. Jeremy was the one who nick-named Kristian “Chen” it really stuck with us. Their bond was pure joy—filled with laughter, shared whispers, and nighttime giggles. They were the very best of friends.
Kristian left us on January 22, 2024 at the young age of just 17 years old. Memories of Chen will forever be cherished in our hearts. In reflection of his struggle, we recognize the importance of addressing mental health openly and proactively. There was so much unwritten in his life, including the opportunities to be a part of our dad's business and exploring his love for geography further. His intelligence and zest for life left a great impression on us all that will never be forgotten.
In honour of Kristian, we advocate for increased mental health awareness and support. Donations will be put towards funeral arrangements, any remaining donations will be used to support the family in accessing the resources needed to heal and cope.
It's crucial to have open conversations, to recognize the signs of struggle, and to encourage seeking help. Let's work together to create a community where mental health is prioritized, and support is readily available. In doing so, we hope to prevent such losses and ensure that those who are struggling can see the possibilities of a brighter future.
If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, call or text 9-8-8.
