It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of my beloved mother-in-law, Catherine “Kathy” Gillenwater, on July 22, 2025.
Kathy had just recently been diagnosed with stage IV metastatic carcinoma, along with numerous other health complications. While we knew her health was declining, we never expected her time with us to be cut so short. Her passing came far sooner than we could have prepared for.
Kathy was a loving mother, a resilient woman, and someone who brought warmth and laughter to those who knew her. She was disabled and lived on a limited income, and unfortunately, she did not have life insurance or savings to help cover final expenses.
She leaves behind her only son, my husband Matthew, who is doing everything in his power to give his mom the dignity and respect she deserves in her final goodbye. We are trying to raise funds for her cremation and a memorial service that truly honors her life — not just the bare minimum.
If you feel called to give, no matter how small, we would be forever grateful. And if you’re unable to donate, please share this page or simply keep our family in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you for your support, kindness, and love.
With gratitude,
Candace & Matthew Gillenwater
Any donations can also be made directly to Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg, VA 24073 under Catherine Gillenwater' account.
