Remembering Jose: A Loving Father and Friend

It is with heavy hearts that we come today seeking financial assistance from the community. My father Jose M. Rivas (age 59) passed away unexpectedly on Monday August 4th, 2025. This unexpected loss has placed a financial strain on my family. We are seeking any contribution to lighten the financial cost for his funeral.

My father immigrated to the United States seeking refuge from the civil war in his home country of El Salvador. He was the oldest of six siblings. He came from humble beginnings and only spoke Spanish upon his arrival. He learned to speak and write in English. He fought to build the life he wanted, eventually becoming a US citizen on July 4th, 2015. He created his own landscaping business and build strong connections in the Yakima and Selah WA communities. He was blessed to serve his clients for over 30+ years with his J.Rivas Lawn Care Service business.

It was God's plan for my parents to meet one another in this big world. They both left their home country and found themselves in Los, Angeles CA, where they met. My parents married in 1991, and have remained together through the highs and lows of life. My father had six children, and was a grandfather to four grandchildren. He loved his family deeply. My father had a generous big heart. He had a beautiful smile. Our hearts are broken by his departure. He was loved by many, and his contagious laughter will be missed.

Con gran pesar, venimos hoy a solicitar la ayuda financiera de la comunidad. Mi padre, José M. Rivas (59 años), falleció inesperadamente el lunes 4 de agosto de 2025. Esta pérdida inesperada ha supuesto una gran carga financiera para mi familia. Solicitamos cualquier contribución para aliviar los gastos de su funeral.

Mi padre emigró a Estados Unidos buscando refugio tras la guerra civil en su país natal, El Salvador. Era el mayor de seis hermanos. Provenía de orígenes humildes y solo hablaba español al llegar. He aprendido a hablar y escribir en inglés. Luchó por construir la vida que deseaba y finalmente se nacionalizó estadounidense el 4 de julio de 2015. Creó su propio negocio de paisajismo y forjó fuertes vínculos en las comunidades de Yakima y Selah, Washington. Tuvo la fortuna de servir a sus clientes durante más de 30 años con su empresa de servicios de cuidado del césped J. Rivas.

Fue el plan de Dios que mis padres se conocieran en este gran mundo. Ambos dejaron su país natal y se establecieron en Los Ángeles, California, donde se conocieron. Mis padres se casaron en 1991 y han permanecido juntos en las buenas y en las malas. Mi padre tuvo seis hijos y fue abuelo de cuatro nietos. Amaba profundamente a su familia. Mi padre tenía un gran corazón generoso. Tenía una hermosa sonrisa. Estamos destrozados por su partida. Fue querido por muchos, y extrañaremos su risa contagiosa.
