My son, Jayson ("JJ") Stillman, was such a good man with a big heart. JJ was literally the one to give you the shirt off his back if he saw you needed anything. Sadly, he struggled with mental health issues, including schizophrenia, for most of his life.

Unfortunately, it's a common thing in the area of mental health to say, "I feel better, so why take meds?"

This led to his spiraling and serial homelessness for most of his life. It's been a nightmare watching my baby slowly die right before my eyes with no way to stop it.

Every time he was placed in a hospital, he signed himself out, as he was an adult, and I couldn't convince the courts to conserve him.

My son was a very good man with a lot of problems, and we're all just devastated that we couldn't convince him to keep up on his medications and remain a part of our family.
