Remembering Jason Chu

Per GoFundMe's request, this fundraiser is hosted by myself (founder of Wavefront and currently employed at VMware which is also Jason's last employer) as well as the leadership team. I have direct contact with Jason's mother and will be delivering the funds to Jason's trust for future disbursement. The funds are to cover any immediate needs of the family and to take care of Jason's affairs (anything beyond that would go towards his mother's living expenses).

It is with great sadness that we learned about Jason Chu’s passing last Friday (Nov 1) at approximately 5:48pm in Mountain View, CA. He is survived by his mother. For many of us, it is still difficult for us to accept that a friend, colleague, and bright engineer would leave us so soon.
Jason joined Wavefront in February 2018 and rapidly became the go-to person for everything related to the FE. He oversaw the rewriting of the Wavefront UI and was instrumental in the delivery of our V2 FE. More importantly than his achievements, he was also always a source of calm and reason in chaotic times and tumultuous discussions. We will also remember his care and concern for those in the team and his thoughtful exchanges whether in person or online.
An immigrant from Hong Kong, Jason’s dedication to his mother (his dad has passed) cannot be overlooked as he would often refrain from taking vacations and talk about how he would drive his mother around town and act as her translator.
We are appreciative that VMware is doing all that is possible to help at this difficult hour but we are also painfully aware that his mother (who is now accompanied by relatives who flew in) will be grieving and, as his passing was so sudden, just beginning to piece together Jason’s finances and finding closure.
No doubt many of us have crossed paths with Jason and if appropriate, please kindly leave a word or two.
