Remembering Hideki Yamaguchi

On Saturday May 26th, 2018 Hide woke up with a headache and felt unwell. A day that started with what was thought to be the flu or food positioning ended horrifically with Hide suffering a fatal subarchanoid hemorrhage while sleeping next to his beloved wife Jessica. Jessica attempted CPR but unfortunately it was already too late. This devastation is unimaginable and his friends and family all over the world continue to live in disbelief. How can this happen to such a healthy man of 45? 
He was a peaceful soul and a brother to all who met him. Hide was an avid snowboarder and loved to cook and play guitar. Most of all he was a family man. Jessica and Hide’s marriage was admired by all those who spent time with them. The connection of their family of four is rarely seen in today’s busy society. They made time for each other and shared their love of life with their children teaching them to appreciate nature and respect the world around them. 

This shock has reverberated inside and outside Japan. His children Haji (14) and Conan (10) are left without their Daddy and Jessica without her soulmate Hide. The costs of such a loss are felt not only emotionally but also financially now and in the coming years as the children grow up and continue to need the support of their parents. Funeral services in Japan are extremely expensive and continue for weeks after the original service. This can often deplete years of savings in a short amount of time. Especially if the passing was sudden with no time to prepare. Now with two children and only one income is when they need us the most.

For all of us who have been welcomed into the Yamaguchi hearts and home over the years as family—it’s time to return the favour.
