Remembering Gil Virgilio Acido's Life

Donation protected
Our father, Gil Virgilio Acido, loved life, he loved community, he loved people, and he loved his family. He made time to hear your story and while feeding you his delicious pansit with Ilokano dad jokes.

He came from a rural working class farming family in the Ilocos. He dreamed of becoming a scholar, a teacher, but taking care of his siblings and parents and family he entered the labor force. No matter what job he did, he did it with pride and dignity.

In Metro Manila, he fought for water rights, bringing accessible water to his town while fighting government corruption. He organized the community to hold elected officials accountable, finally deposing the mayor of his town. He was celebrated and respected, though he refused to run for office. Instead, content on simply being present for the people while raising his daughter and son, while supporting his wife.

In Hawaii, he worked various jobs, cleaning buildings and eventually retired at a Love's Bakery. His love for community often found him cooking food for youth and elders--He cooked with a giant wok telling his children "We cannot only cook for ourselves because other's might be hungry too". He would deliver food from Kalihi to Waipahu and fed all his neighbors where ever he lived in Kalihi. He took care of his elders, listening to them, taking them to appointments and updating them on what is happening in the Philippines. He was a "super uncle".

He loved his daughter. Grateful for the way she took care of him during his sick days: "Naanus ni Bebe" (she did all for me) he would say.

I remember him asking me "Did I do enough for you?" I said "yes."

Let him know that he was more than "enough".

We ask you to honor his life that was committed to generosity and a life of abundance!

Your financial contribution will be used for his funeral service and other costs to help our mother in her grieving process.

He passed on 6/28/2024. He is remembered by his wife, daughter, son and 3 grandchildren (with another on the way).

Any contributions are appreciated.
