FRED PENFOLD
24 April 1971 – 27 December 2020
Fred joined the railway in February 2006 as a Conductor at Selhurst, and by 2009 had made the transition to Driver. He was a well-known and popular character at Selhurst, and well-liked by his colleagues across Metro South, and together with Olga, he played a major part in the social life of the depot.
Transferring to Eastbourne later in his career, he soon established himself there as a character due to his sense of humour, likeability and readiness for a laugh.
The news of his far-too-early death has profoundly shocked all his colleagues across our industry, and hopefully this page will allow many to offer a fitting tribute to Fred.
Our hearts and prayers go out to his wife, Olga, a former Selhurst and now Brighton RM, his daughter Sam as well as the wider family circle.
The aim of this page is to offer our thoughts, memories and recollections of Fred and of course, to help the family through this difficult time in whatever capacity is needed.
