Remembering Fatima Vasquez
In the morning hours of August 17th I received a call from my wife that left me speechless. I couldn’t hear what was said but the tone told me it was something horrifying. In that instant i dropped everything and drove 80 miles to meet with her. My sister in law had passed away in the blink of eye, just like that she was gone. My sister in law, Fatima, was a strong, independent woman who always sought to do things that were not expect of her. She had been working in hospitality but in recent months found a pull for working in construction more specifically heavy equipment operation. Fatima found joy in working under the hot Texas sun just for an opportunity of being close to the heavy machines that fascinated her. A couple months ago Fatima began working for a construction company in Austin Tx and surrounding cities. Employed as a water truck driver her work ethic was very evident and not long after was assigned the task of operating a full size road roller.
In the tragic morning of August 17th Fatima was crushed by the machine she was operating, when paramedics arrived on scene she was pronounced dead. The road roller tipped over the edge of the street she was working on landing on her chest killing her instantly. We are not looking to blame anyone but we are seeking help for final expenses. Any and all help is appreciated.
En horas de la mañana del 17 de agosto recibí una llamada de mi esposa que me dejó sin palabras. No pude escuchar lo que me dijo, pero el tono en que lo dijo que era algo horrible. En ese instante dejé todo y manejé 80 millas para encontrarme con ella. Mi cuñada había fallecido en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, y así nada más había fallecido. Mi cuñada, Fátima, era una mujer fuerte e independiente que siempre buscaba hacer cosas que no se esperaban de ella. Ella había estado trabajando en hotelería, pero en los últimos meses encontró una oportunidad para trabajar en la construcción, más específicamente en la operación de equipos pesados. A Fátima le encantaba trabajar bajo el ardiente sol de Texas solo para tener la oportunidad de estar cerca de las pesadas máquinas que la fascinaban. Hace un par de meses, Fatima comenzó a trabajar para una empresa de construcción en Austin Tx y las ciudades circundantes. Empleada como conductora de camión cisterna, su ética de trabajo era muy evidente y poco después se le asignó la tarea de operar una apisonadora de tamaño completo.
En la trágica mañana del 17 de agosto, Fátima fue aplastada por la máquina que estaba operando, cuando los paramédicos llegaron al lugar, la declararon muerta. La apisonadora se volcó sobre el borde de la calle en la que estaba trabajando para aterrizar en su pecho matándola instantáneamente. No buscamos culpar a nadie, pero buscamos ayuda para los gastos finales. Se agradece cualquier ayuda.
