Just over two years ago the rugby league community lost a true gentleman. Dave Or Our Dyav as many knew him, was rugby league mad having played the sport for a number of years, before turning his hand to coaching, though some of his coaching was also done during his playing days, where he coached a very successful Broughton Red Rose youth team in 2009, a squad in which his son " Mark " was apart of.

Broughton Red Rose was Dave's home, playing many years there before then turning coach, but another club close to Dave's heart was Cockermouth Titans where he was head coach for many of years. Dave was a well known figure throughout the rugby league community and a very well respected person anywhere he went.

Sooo with that said......

On the 14th of June 2025 Broughton Red Rose will be holding a " Remembering David Varty Day " raising money for the youth sections of two clubs close to Dave's Heart, Broughton Red Rose and the Cockermouth Titans, along with the Charity " Andy's Man Club ". The day will look to consist of 3 games throughout the day, BRR youth and Titans youth will first lock horns, which will be followed by an Over 35s BRR Team v Titans Team Match, This is not be missed, more to do with the comedy Factor than the skill factor, we will then end the day with a Under 35s game, which will be a mix of able bodies from past and present BRR/Titans players. Music, Food and all the stuff in between will be on hand for all your rugby spectator needs, so its a day not to be missed. All money raised will be split between the two youth systems of each club to help them progress the next generation of players and gentlemen like our " Dave " while also contributing to the incredible work Andy's Man Club continues to do for men's mental well being.

This day is about celebrating David, Celebrating what he started at each club and never forgetting a man that gave so much to so many throughout his life.
