This is Corey’s Mom. Corey passed away Thursday night. We are having a celebration of life for him this Sunday June 18th (Father’s Day) at his church. Victory Baptist church in Henning at 10:30 am. If you are his friend, old or new, or if he has touched your life, we would love to see you there. Keep us in your prayers.
Corey's story:
Corey was a kind child and loved by all. Unfortunately, as a young boy, he experienced a severe trauma. At the young age of 11, he began drinking and experimenting with drugs to cope. At the age of 18 - he received his first felony charge. He'd spend the next two decades in and out of jail. Anytime he was out of jail, he would succumb to his addictions. But in 2018, while serving time in the Lauderdale County Jail, he attended a prison ministry and was overcome with the Holy Spirit. He believed that finding Jesus enabled him to turn his life around. After a stay at a treatment center, Corey was ready to move forward with his life and wanted to help others. He started working in the treatment center as a technician and earned his CPRS (Certified Peer Recovery Specialist) certification. He graduated in July of 2022 (Top 10 of the Class!) with a college degree in Psychology. He enrolled in January of this year to obtain a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling. He has been using his experiences as he helps others in a Life Recovery Program held at Victory Baptist Church where most recently was serving as Associate Pastor.
Corey will be remembered as a loving father and son, a dependable friend, and an inspiration to the individuals he served in his church and in his work as a firsthand Guide. His experiences, paired with his empathetic nature, allowed him to guide individuals toward their own paths of healing.
Corey believed that his purpose in life was to help others, and he made a positive impact on the lives of many.
