Remembering Christopher Saftel

I never thought there would be a day I'd ever get a phone call with the devastating news that my best friend had taken his life, that he’s no longer walking on this Earth with his big goofy smile. The hallways and classrooms at Randolph High will be less bright with the absence of his dancing and stupid jokes. As much as it is filled, it will always feel empty now walking through it.
Suicide was something I saw in movies, I never thought there would be a day where I would lose my best friend to depression. His loved ones — losing a son, a brother, a nephew, a cousin, Chris was so much more. It feels like a nightmare that you can’t wake up from, it doesn’t feel real. The weight that he was carrying must’ve been unbearable and I wish we could’ve taken it off his shoulders. We’ve talked about graduating and growing up together since freshman year, just another three months and we would’ve crossed that stage and moved onto the next stage of our lives together. Being a young adult. His future was so bright but he never made it past these high school walls to see how big this world is. He was such a bright kid with a pure soul, an inspiration to everyone around him and I know that his light will stay with each of us he touched.
This GoFundMe is one way we can honor Chris and support his family, allowing those that are touched by his spirit to be able to give freely during this difficult time. We want this to bring awareness to suicide and depression. It doesn’t feel real until it’s someone you know. Check on your friends and family. If you know anyone battling with depression, please keep loving them and show them that this life is worth living. Please encourage them to reach out for help.
His life was short-lived, but it was undoubtedly impactful to many. We love and miss you Chris. Heaven couldn’t wait for you.
