Remembering Butch Nitahara

Hi everyone. This is Janielle Sakata. For those of you who are reading this page knew Butch. But for those of you who did not see my original FB post, Butch was diagnosed with esophagus and stomach cancer in March 2020. Although his cancer went into remission, it came back earlier this year . Coupled with other health complications, he passed away on Thanksgiving in the evening.

Tomorrow, December 3rd would have been his 73rd birthday.

The funds that get collected will help with his wish to be cremated and and have a memorial luncheon.

The outpouring of love and support that has been shown for Butch has been so heartwarming. The hope is to continue these positive feelings during the luncheon with good eats & drinks, lots of memories and have some stories to share, but I have a feeling there won’t be enough time…we’re talking’ ‘bout Butch, LOL!

My request is to get a confirmation if you are planning to attend the luncheon. The tentative dates are for Saturday January 7th, 14th or 21st from 12:00-4:00pm. Location TBD based on the number of RSVP’s received. In other words, could be Gardena Bowl, Cherrystones or elsewhere.

For now, if you can RSVP your attendance while you’re in GoFundMe, that would great. (I am not sure if that option is available. This is the first time to set on of these up. ☹️) Please give what is comfortable for you.

There will updates in the near future. With the holidays fast approaching, the goal would be to have the date, time and place arranged by the end of the month.

This was a hard choice, but Butch has so many connections from his classmates from Gardena High, the bowling community and his decades of work in the airline industry. Starting this GoFundMe is the best and expeditious way to get the word out. I’m grateful that there are ways through social media that give support in this way.

I really don’t have the words for those of you how have been so kind, so supportive and caring. Butch had his moments, but he attracted so many good people. He was lucky to have known all of you!

Thank you for taking the time to visit this page.
