Remembering Bertha

There is no one more loving, kind and supportive than Bertha and with great sadness I am sharing with you that our dear Bertha suffered a brain aneurysm last week.  She is on a ventilator and will not recover. So many friends have commented on the influence Bertha has had on their lives: "an embodiment of love for so many", "A treasured person", "Forging connections with families, staff and students at la Escuela Fratney", "My children love her", 'So good at comforting others",  A sweet,tender, and wonderful woman who only got more wonderful with time", " a generous spirit looking and waiting to share her many gifts with others", "una hermana sabia", "mi curandera favorita", "Mi comadre", "No hay nadie como nuestra Bertha." She has held a very special place in the lives and hearts of so many.
Just recently, Bertha was honored at the Somos Latinas reception for a new book published to share the stories of Latina activists in Wisconsin. Bertha has a chapter in the book.
Her daughter Amada shared that Bertha will be taken off of the ventilator on Sunday. A funeral is planned for Friday, July 27, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish on 4th and Brown.
As we know the cost of  funeral can be overwhelming. Many people have asked how they can help to support Bertha's family. We are asking for your donations to this Go Fund Me account in honor of Bertha and to support her family and their needs at this time.
Bertha will be so, so missed.
