Remembering Baby Mason
My name is Jessica Salsberry. Cammy and I have been best friends since the 4th grade. She is the sister I never had. I never dreamt I would be holding my best friend while watching her say goodbye to her 8 month old baby boy. Her family has gone through the unimaginable. I thank you for taking the time to read Mason's story....The following was written by Camila Cox, Mason's Mommy:
"Thank you to everyone for the prayers and words of encouragement last night. The doctors and nurses worked tirelessly to keep Mason alive and to keep his heart beating. At 2:47 am while I held Mason in my arms, his heart took its last beat. He was surrounded by family telling him how loved he was, brave he had been and that it was okay for him to stop fighting. I sang him "Twinkle-twinkle Little Star" as he left this earth and went to Heaven. He was our little gift from God and we are so thankful for every precious moment we got to spend with him."
Mason was about to turn 9 months old on May 10th. On May 5th 2017, Mason Matthew Cox passed away after fighting a very brief, very hard battle with strep pneumoccocal, which caused a very serious infection in his blood. According to his pediatrician, strep pneumoccal is something that infants are vaccinated against, however, despite vaccination, there is still a small 2-3% of babies that contract it. Mason was part of that 2-3%. His pediatrician stated that the bacteria in his blood from this infection was so severe, that it was like being hit by a truck, she said he never had a chance.
Those of you close to the family know what a long, hard road his family went through just to bring him in to this world. They fought so hard for him before he was ever here, and they never stopped. Mason was always their biggest blessing, their gift from God.
Mason always had a smile on his face, and a cuddle to lend. He brightened the lives of all who knew him, and forever changed our lives for the better.
Please help if you can, in supporting Cammy and Aaron Cox, and remembering our sweet Mason in any way possible. The family has been quoted approximately $10,000 for funeral costs alone, so ANY help, no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate then please just SHARE! They are going through the unimaginable, and could use all the help they can get. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Jessica Salsberry
